Our monthly interest rates on purchases and balance transfers are 1.408% and our annual rates are 16.9%

Our monthly interest rates on cash advances and cheque transactions are 2.075% and our annual rates are 24.9%

Interest-free period

Maximum 45 days for purchases if you pay your balance in full and on time. No interest-free period on balance transfers and Cash Advances.

How we charge interest

You won’t pay interest on new purchases if you pay your balance in full and on time. Otherwise, the period over which interest is charged will be as follows:

Interest on purchases is charged from the date debited to your account, until paid in full or the first statement you pay in full and on time, if that is sooner.

Interest on cash advances is charged from the date debited to your account until paid in full.

Interest on balance transfers is charged from the date debited to your account until paid in full.

 

You pay 16.9% p.a. (variable) for Purchases (including Annual Card Fees, Non-Sterling Transaction Fees and admin charges for ancillary services) and Balance Transfers.

You pay 24.9% p.a. (variable) for Cash advances (which includes cash withdrawals, the purchase of foreign currency and Travellers’ Cheques and money transfers).

Interest-free credit period of 45 days

If you pay your balance in full, you get 45 days interest-free credit on purchases.

Interest-free credit is not available on balance transfers and cash advances.

Flexible monthly payments

Pay a minimum 5% or £5 whichever is greater of the balance or repay the full amount, and if you want to pay more than the minimum, you’re able to make additional payments. You can find out more about minimum payments in the "Charges" tab.

Instead of paying the balance in full every month you can just pay the minimum amount by the required date. This can be handy if your customers are being slow to pay you.

What you should know

If you only pay the minimum payment it will take longer and cost more to clear your balance and there can be a risk of escalating debt, additional interest or charges and of potential financial difficulties.

Credit limit between £500 and £10,000

Use the card for anything from petty cash to buying IT equipment. Maximum credit limit subject to status.

No card fee in your first year of trading

We want to do all we can for fledgling businesses, so we’re waiving the annual fee of £32 for your first year.

After the first year you'll be charged £32 per year per card.

Charges

Allocation of payments

If you don’t pay off your balance in full, your payments are applied to the balance in a specific order.

Allocation of payments – in detail

Your payments are used to repay the items on your account in the following order:  

to reduce sums shown on your most recent monthly statement, according to their interest rates, with the highest rate paid first; and

if any payment exceeds your most recent monthly statement balance, the excess will then be applied to reduce sums charged to your card but not yet shown on any monthly statement. This is also done according to interest rates, with the highest interest rate paid first.

If parts of either of the balances referred to above have the same interest rate, sums on which interest is charged on interest will reduce first.

Minimum repayment

5% or £5, whichever is greater. Remember: if you only make the minimum payment it will take longer and cost more to clear your balance.

Minimum payment in detail

The minimum payment will be either:

  1. the greater of £5 or 5% of the full amount outstanding;
  2. the full amount, where the sum outstanding is less than £5; or 
  3. Subject to any notice required by law, the full outstanding balance if: we believe that the card is being used or might be used in breach of the agreement or in an unauthorised or fraudulent manner; or as a result of a change in the way you operate your account or in your financial circumstances (including missing payments), we reasonably believe that you may have difficulty in meeting your commitments.

How to reduce your interest charges

The best way to reduce interest charges on your business credit card is by repaying as much of your balance as you can afford to each month. Even if you want to stick to the minimum payment you currently make by monthly Direct Debit, you can still make extra payments on top, any time you want. The back of your credit card statement explains the variety of payment methods you can use.

Non-Sterling Transaction Fee – 2.95% of each foreign exchange transaction (including purchase of foreign currency and travellers' cheques)

Cash Advance charge – 3% of the transaction amount (minimum charge £3)

Balance transfer to the Royal Bank Business credit card

Why not move the money you owe from your other cards? It could mean you pay less interest. Fees may apply.

A balance transfer is when you move the money you owe (the balance) from one credit card provider to another, often with a lower rate of interest. That’s why if you do a balance transfer to the Royal Bank credit card, you might end up paying less.

How it works

Apply for a Royal Bank business credit card. If you’re accepted, you can then request a balance transfer, by getting in touch or online.

The balance transfer rate you’ll pay is on the back of your credit card statement (posted to you) or find out through Credit Card Online Services

You may request a balance transfer of up to a total of 95% of your available credit limit

What you should know

You can’t do a balance transfer from any other Royal Bank of Scotland Group credit card

All our balance transfer rates are for the lifetime of the balance

Some useful information about the Business credit card

You’ll need the personal details of all of the directors or partners of the business (including their home addresses for the last 3 years). You’ll also need your basic business details, including your Company’s Registration Number (provided by Companies House) if you’re a limited company. If you want to transfer a balance to your credit card please call the Royal Bank business team. There's no interest free period on balance transfers.

How many cards do you need?

So, you’re a limited company applying for just one card. Here are the things we’ll need from you…

Personal details

  • Full name, date of birth and nationality
  • Home addresses (and the date you moved there)
  • Contact details
  • Details of your principle bank/building society account

Business details

  • Business address for all correspondence
  • Business contact details
  • Information about your business activity and number of employees
  • Average turnover per annum
  • Any other trading names your business uses
  • Month and year business started trading

Your registered company number

  • This is provided by Companies House when you register your limited company with them. Please make sure your Limited Company has already been registered with Companies House for at least 48 hours before starting your application with us.

And now for the important legal stuff…

To apply for our business credit card, you must meet these requirements

  • You’re aged 18 and over
  • You’re a director of the business you’re applying on behalf of
  • You have not been declared bankrupt or received a County Court Judgement (CCJ) or Court Decree
  • Your registered business address must be in the United Kingdom
