Couture hairdresser heads for even greater success with new product lines


Michael Van Clarke worked as John Frieda’s apprentice for ten years before establishing his Marylebone salon in 1988. From inception, the business has grown year on year, with Michael continually striving for excellence, setting trends and creating his own unique signature hair systems.

Elle Magazine describes Michael Van Clarke as delivering "the best haircuts in London" and Vogue Magazine has dubbed his salon "The most professional salon in London". Now Michael, couture hairdresser and founder of Best UK Salon of the year, is working with NatWest to fund production of his business’s new product lines.

Michael strongly believes that innovation is the key to a healthy business and continually works to integrate progressive technology and design into the methods and products used within his salon. In 2010 his experience of couture hairdressing and his scientific understanding of hair enabled the launch of the Michael Van Clarke "3 More Inches" range. These products proved successful, and increasing demand led Michael to seek funding to support the production of new formulations for the growing product line-up.

Michael worked closely with his NatWest Senior Relationship Manager, Paul Panteli. A retail sector specialist, Paul arranged a £150,000 loan to support the growth of the retail hair products side of the business.

"At the moment the media seem to portray that nobody can borrow from the banks, it’s not true," stresses Michael, "If you have a good business idea that is well researched, speak to NatWest, they are lending."
