Overview

As a Royal Bank of Scotland customer, you can:

• Get an account balance using your debit card and PIN
• Withdraw cash from your account using your debit card and PIN
• Pay in cash with a pre-printed paying-in slip
• Make cheque deposits with a pre-printed paying-in slip
• Exchange cash for coin using the Post Office® Change Giving service (you will need to register for this service)

What you need to know:

• Each Post Office® is subject to individual cut off times and the level of service may differ at each Post Office®. Please check with the Post Office® you wish to use to find out more.
• Cash paid through the Post Office® will be added to a Royal Bank of Scotland account when we receive it from the Post Office®, which is usually within two working days. Please note that sometimes it might take longer to reach us.
• Cheques paid in at a Post Office® will be added to a Royal Bank of Scotland account when we receive them from the Post Office® which is usually within two working days. The cheques will follow the normal cheque clearing cycle once we have received them from the Post Office®. Please note sometimes they might take a little longer to reach us.
• When using the Post Office® to pay in, cash and cheques cannot be mixed in the same transaction. Separate paying-in slips are required.
• Services charges may apply for some customers. Please contact us or your Relationship Manager for further information.

A pre-printed paying-in slip is required for every RBS branded Post Office® cheque deposit envelope used.

Service charges may apply for each paying-in envelope used.

Change Giving

You will need to register to use this service. Please contact us or your Relationship Manager for further information.

A validChange Giving card provided following registration.This will be required to complete each transaction. 

Notes to be exchanged for coin.

Up to maximum of £1000 per day

Instant - provided the Post Office® outlet has received your change order request at least 24 hours in advance.

Mixed pay-in’s: Please note that cash and cheques cannot be mixed when carrying out a ‘Paying-in cash with slip’ transaction’. Separate paying-in slips are required.
Post Office® cut off times: ‘Paying-in services’ transaction timescales are subject to Post Office® cut off times. This is the point of time in which the banking transactions are collected from the Post Office®.
Business Quick Deposit: Our Business Quick Deposit service is not available at the Post Office®.
Change Giving registration: Please allow approximately 10 business days for the Change Giving registration to be completed before attempting to use the service for the first time.

How do I order a paying-in book?

We will automatically send you a new paying-in book when you start to run out of paying-in slips. Otherwise, the quickest way to order a new paying-in book is via:

• Digital Banking
• Bankline
• Or call your local service team who will place an order for you
 

Will I be charged for carrying out transactions at the Post Office®?

Services at the Post Office® are subject to the same charges applicable to Royal Bank of Scotland branches. Please contact the Bank or your Relationship Manager for further information.

How long does it take for cash to be paid through the Post Office®?

Cash paid in at a Post Office® using a pay-in slip will be added to the Royal Bank of Scotland account and treated as cleared when we receive it from the Post Office® (which is usually two business days after you pay it in).

For example:

• Pay in cash on Monday before the Post Office® cut off time, the Royal Bank of Scotland account will usually be credited by the end of Tuesday after we receive the funds from the Post office®.

Pay in cash on Monday after the Post Office® cut off time, the Royal Bank of Scotland account will usually  be credited by end of Wednesday after we receive the funds from the Post office®.

How long does it take for cheques to be paid through the Post Office®? 

Sterling cheques paid in at a Post Office® will be added to your account when we receive them from the Post Office® which is usually within two working days. Please note sometimes they might take a little longer to reach us.

The cheques will follow the normal cheque clearing cycle once we have received them from the Post Office®.

For example:

• Pay in a cheque on Monday before the Post Office®  cut off time, we will usually receive it by Wednesday, the cheque value will appear on your statement by Thursday (with Wednesday’s date), and funds will be available to withdraw by the following Tuesday.

• Pay in a cheque on Monday after the Post Office® cut off time, we will usually receive it by Thursday, the cheque value will appear on your statement by Friday (with Thursday’s date), and funds will be available to withdraw by the following Wednesday.

Can I use the Business Quick Deposit (BQD) service at the Post Office®?

No, the Post Office® service does not accept BQD bags. Cash deposits can only be made using a pre-printed paying in slip, and cheque deposits with a pre-printed paying-in slip, and cheque deposits with a pre-printed paying-in slip and designated envelope (envelopes available from the Post Office).
